PaintsandCoatings,”whichwasdeliveredbyAlexandreTarantino,directorof
Manufacturingat IMCDBrazil,andRafaelDias,accountofficerandtechnical
salespersonatEvonik.
Elementis Specialties presented the lecture “Rheology Applied to Solving
TypicalDecorativePaintProblems,”whereby thecompany tookadifferent
approachtorheology,viewing itasatoolofresolvingthoseproblemswhich
typicallyoccur intheformulationofdecorativecoatings.
NextcamesalesmanagerRicardoGouvea,ofWackerQuímica,whodelivered
alectureentitled“VAESolutionsforPaintsandCoatings,”whichshowedthat
thanks to theiruniquepropertiesandpositivecost-benefit ratios,VAE (vinyl
acetateandethylene) copolymer dispersions havebeengainingmoreand
morerelevance inthecoatingsandadhesive industries.
Oneothermajorthemecoveredattheforumwas“VoluntaryCertificationof
CoatingsforBuildingandConstructionunderINMETROOrdinance529/2015,”
for the lecture delivered by Roberta Chamusca, Metrology andQuality
executiveanalystat INMETRO (short inPortuguese forNational Instituteof
Metrology).
Closingtheforum,“Scope,LegislationandImpactofGHS,MSDSandLabeling
Requirements”was the theme forapresentationbyProf.AlanadePontes
Danze,atraininganalystatIntertox,whoexpatiatedonthescopeoftheUN’s
(UnitedNations)GloballyHarmonizedSystemofClassificationandLabeling
ofChemicals(GHS).

Through itsFluidManagementbusinessunit, IngersollRand is introducing in
theBrazilianmarkettheair-operateddiaphragmandpistonpumptechnologies
fromitsARObrand,whichcomealongwithtechnicalsupportandreplacement
partsalloverBrazil.
IngersollRand,aUS-basedcompanywith145yearsofexistence, ispresent in
theBrazilianmarketplacewithitsleadingequipmentbrandsforthemanufac-
turingsector,aswellasrefrigerationequipment.“We’retalkingaboutagroup
worthUS$13billionworldwide,US$10ofwhich intheClimatebusinessalone,
whichcomprises thegroup’sair conditioningbrands,offeringall sizes from
smallunitsto largeequipment.These includetheThermoKingbrand,which
leads theworld in transport refrigerationand temperaturecontrol systems
for trucks, buses, etc., aswell asmore low-profilebrands for refrigeration
machines,” says CristianDrewes, sales director for LatinAmerica at ARO’s
FluidManagementbusinessunit.
Drewes points out that the remainingUS$ 3 billion come from five other
businessunitsunder thegroup’sumbrella.Wehave Ingersoll Randwithair
compressors, ClubCarwithgolf carts and services,Material Randwithair-
-operated cranes or lifting systems, air-operated and electric power
tools,andFluidManagement,whichI’mresponsibleforinLatinAmerica,
and includestheARObrandoffluidmanagementproducts.
IngersollRandemploys40,000peopleandruns870plantsandbusiness
officesaroundtheworld,allofwhichoverandaboveanother54manu-
facturingsitesbuildingtheirequipment.“It’sareallylargegroup,which
comprisesseveraldivisionsandisratherglobalized.IntheAmericasand
Asiaalone,wehave380plantsfortheClimatebusinessandanother75
plantsthatbuildequipment for industrialapplications.Andwe’reglo-
balizingouroperationsevenfurther,whilegrowingovertime.Notonly
dowehaveallkeycertifications,suchasISO9000,ISO9001,ISO9002,
ISO 14000, and ISO 18000, theproducts fromourpumpbusinessare
uptothestrictesttechnicalspecificationsaswell.Wearepresent inall
segmentsofour industrybecausethere’salwaysapossibleapplication
forourpumpsacrosstheboard,especiallyinthechemicalandcoatings
industries,whereourpumpsareusedfromthemanufacturingprocess
upuntilapplicationoftheendproduct,”Drewesconcludes.

Everyyear,theUnionofPaintManufacturersintheCityofRiodeJaneiro
(knownforshort inPortugueseasSintirj)honorsthebestsuppliersfor
theprevious yearwithanawardpresentation ceremony that brings
together representativesof those companies andentities related to
thepaintandcoatings industry.
Inthisyear’sedition, theBestSuppliersoftheYearAwardsceremony
washeldonMarch 16, during theentities traditional social dinner at
ClubedaAeronáutica.Inattendancewere150professionalsoftheindus-
tryandrepresentativesof itsrelatedentities, includingDilsonFerreira,
executivepresidentofABRAFATI,NarcisoMoreiraPretoandAntonio
CarlosdeOliveira, president andexecutivepresidentof Sitivesp, res-
pectively,RubensMedrano,presidentofAssociquim-Sincoquim(short
inPortugueseforBrazilianAssociationofChemicalandPetrochemical
DistributorsandUnionofSãoPauloStateChemicalandPetrochemical
Wholesalers), and José Carlos Zanotelli, president of Sindiquímicos
(shortforChemicalIndustryUnioninEspíritoSanto),aswellasrepresen-
tativesofFirjan(shortforFederationofRiodeJaneiroStateIndustries)

Inhis opening speech, Sintirj president AlexandreBastoswelcomed
all guestsandstressed the importanceof the industry’sunionand its
accomplishments,aswell as thesupportprovidedbyFirjan, including
last year’sopeningof theRiode JaneiroCoatingsLaboratory,which
representsasignificantadvancefortheindustryinRiodeJaneirostate.
