All over Brazil!
It’s the middle of the year, and we at Agnelo Editora can already celebrate a year full of achievements and vic-
tories. We’ve just arrived from Goiânia, Goiás (Brazil), where the 2nd Paint & Pintura Coatings Technology and
Management Forum took place, and we’ve once again achieved our goal of bringing to the market information
on innovation and new technologies, while providing new business opportunities for the paint industry as
whole in a pleasant environment. The event was a complete success!
The forum was held on June 29 and 30 and was highly praised by the industry in Brazil’s Midwest region.
Approximately 230 people registered, 160 of whom coming from the region’s 50 paint companies. In addition, a
total 290 people attended during the two days of the forum.
But this is just the beginning. Later this year, on October 5 and 6, Agnelo Editora will be holding the next
forum in the Wonderful City: Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Janeiro. Do not miss the opportunity to contribute to this
endeavor to spread knowledge and add to the paint industry’s growth in Brazil. See in this issue the entire co-
verage of yet another great event held for the paint value chain, which includes testimonies by representatives
of the region’s paint companies and their suppliers, which gave their complete support to the forum.
This issue also brings you a special report on the chemical distribution market, which will facing major chal-
lenges over the next few years, and primarily needs the entire supply chain to focus on safety and sustainabi-
lity, not to mention the new, overwhelming mergers and acquisitions, which are the natural way to go since
Brazil is pleasing global industries with its favorable growth and development scenario for the next few years.
Another special report in this issue refers to the plastic packaging industry, which is evolving, gaining ground
in the paint business, and providing smart, modern and more environmentally sustainable solutions.
Enjoy!

Interview - Abiquim’s new CEO
The main challenge facing the new chief executive officer
at the Brazilian Chemical Industry’s Association, known
for short as Abiquim, is to appropriately project the key
role played by the chemical industry in Brazil’s economy,
raising awareness in governmental authorities, the
National Congress, the media and opinion leaders of the
industry’s needs in respect of such themes as competiti-
veness and innovation.
Figueiredo, who took office as chief executive officer on
May 2, has a degree from the University of São Paulo
Law School, is a member of the Senior Council on Te-
chnology and Competitiveness at the FIESP (Federation
of São Paulo State-Based Industries), was a professor of
law at the private college FMU, and teaches corporate
communication under the Getulio Vargas Foundation’s
(FGV) Continued Education Program. At Abiquim, he was
a member of the Commission on Economics, while co-
ordinating the commissions on Legal Affairs, Legislative
Affairs, and Communication and Image.
Until December 2010, Figueiredo was vice president and
member of BASF’s executive committee in South Ameri-
ca, responsible for plastics, polyurethanes, catalysts and
industrial chemicals, social communication, taxes and
insurance. He started his career in the group in 1978 as
manager of Glasurit Brazil’s legal department. Figueiredo
is succeeding the economist Eduardo Bernini at Abiquim.
In this interview that Abiquim’s chief executive officer
gave to Paint & Pintura, which is available in Portuguese
only, he talks about his career, goals, challenges in the
chemical industry, Abiquim’s actions, and projections for
