PAINT & PINTURA
Comfort Suites Flamboyant hotel, and approximately
180 people engaged in the paint and coatings industry
attended.
Brazil’s Midwest region has been standing out over the
past few years due to the large sums invested in indus-
trial businesses, which have been taking progress and
growth to the region.
In his opening speech, Agnelo de Barros Neto, chief
executive officer at Agnelo Editora, the publishing
company which organizes the function, talked about
the importance of events of this kind in the region and
the company’s mission of spreading information all
over Brazil. “This is the second forum that we hold. The
first one, in the Northeast region, was quite successful,
and this one in Goiânia already seems to be guarante-
ed success given the number of attendees and the high
level of its lectures. I thank all of the paint companies
which backed up the forum and received us so well.” He
also said that this was the first in a series of events that
Agnelo Editora is yet to hold in the region.
The inaugural lecture was delivered by Colatex’s direc-
tor Gilbert Guiotti Junior on the theme “Midwestern
Paint Market: Industry evolution for the past few years
and main development drivers.” First, Guiotti pointed
up paint market figures. “The industry had a turnover
of around US$ 4 billion in 2010. These are very good
numbers and it will be hard to achieve the same results
from now on, as last year we had lots of government
benefits, especially in building and construction, which
created a favorable situation for the entire supply chain.
From 2009 to 2010, the industry’s results increased by
10.5 percent, and a target is expected to be achieved this
year of 6 to 7 percent, but in the first half of this year we
won’t be able to attain so good a result as we did in 2010,
which was an excellent period. We need the government
to keep helping the industry with lots of incentives, so
that we can grow at the same pace as we did last year.”
Guiotti also talked about the importance of the region
for Brazil’s economic growth. “The Midwestern market is
key to Brazil’s development. All of the industrial busines-
ses in the region are ready to develop and adjust, and
since Brazil is set to grow, so are we. The cities of Brasília,
Goiânia, Anápolis, Cuiabá and Campo Grande are in the
middle of the process of growing and industrializing the-
mselves. The agribusiness still leads as the main industry
in the Midwest, but this is beginning to change thanks
to investments in the construction industry. We’re sure
we’ll encounter hard situations sometimes, but there will
also be favorable times for improvement in the region,
especially suppliers of raw materials to the paint indus-
try. What we need now is for the whole paint value chain
to unite,” he concluded.
Closing
The forum ended on June 30 as a major success in
Goiânia, Goiás. Approximately 230 people registered, of
whom 160 came from around 50 paint companies which
are based in the region. In addition, a total 290 people
attended during the two days of the forum.
Agnelo Editora, together with suppliers of raw materials
and equipment to the paint industry, has once again
achieved the goal of disseminating information on inno-
vation and new technologies in the marketplace, while
providing an opportunity, in a pleasant environment, for
new business in the paint industry in general.
The next forum will be held in Rio de Janeiro, Rio de Ja-
neiro on October 5 and 6, 2011. Do not miss the oppor-
tunity to contribute to this endeavor to spread knowled-
ge and add to the paint industry’s growth in Brazil.
