Next came Flavia Zangrandi Marcondes, sales manager at the IMCD Brazil Coatings business, who covered the theme “Evonik Solutions for theWorld of Coatings from IMCD Brazil, Distributing Innovation to Our Customers”, through an institutional presentation focused on the company’s ability to meet the technical and business requirements of its customers. Up next was Eastman with its lecture “Coalescing Agents to Meet Current VOC Requirements in Brazil and Other Latin American Countries,” delivered by its product development manager for Latin America, Marcos Basso. Allnex kicked off the afternoon presentations with the lecture “Introduction to the Radiation Curing Technolo- gy”, delivered by Pamila Heitkoeter deMelo, application coordinator. TheMAST Group closed the forumwith a lecture entitled “Measuring Appearance Before and After Weathering Exposure”, presented by sales executive Dario Men- donça. At the end of the event, the MAST Group drew lots for two gifts for those attending. In first came Paula Gue- des, sales representative for Festcor, who con a Ford cup, and in second Festcor director Arlene Velpert, who won an extender. INDUSTRY IN THE SPOTLIGHT - WACKER BRAZIL CELEBRATES 40TH ANNIVERSARY In 1977, the German-based group Wacker opened its Brazilian plant in Jandira, São Paulo, and now, 40 years later, the plant is expanding its silicone production, and is regarded as one of the chemical industry’s leading players in Brazil, Argentina, and Chile. Wacker held a ceremony on August 29 at Hilton Mo- rumbi, in São Paulo, to announce the celebration of the 40th anniversary of the opening of its Brazilian plant, which is considered the company’s South American headquarters, as well as the opening of its new multi- -purpose plant in Brazil. Wacker Brazil was the German group’s first regional subsi- diary in South America. Officially named Wacker Química do Brasil, the subsidiary has seen a lot since its founding, and has become a leading player in the Brazilian, Argentine and Chilean markets, with 2016 sales of approximately 90 million euros. With its ongoing expansion project and the Jandira production site, Wacker is contributing to supplying the growing regional demand for specialty silicones, which are needed in the construction, pulp and paper, cosmetic, and textile industries, as well as the agribusiness. The 1977 opening of the Jandira, São Paulo site was a miles- tone in Wacker’s expansion to the region, and it was there that the company began to produce silicones. Wacker is now building a multi-purpose facility at the site, where it is going to produce anti-foaming compounds and functional silicone fluids. Wacker Química do Brasil currently employs 116 associates, including production, sales, its technical center, and the Wacker Academy, serving customers in countries like Argen- tina, Brazil, Chile, Uruguay, and Paraguay. The main markets served by Wacker are construction, paints and coatings, pulp and paper, consumer electronics, home appliances, personal care and cosmetics, textiles, adhesives and elastomers, and the agribusiness.
