ABRAFATI PREVIEW 82 | PAINT&PINTURA | Outubro 2017 GRACE Grace has been expanding its leadership as a global supplier of matting agents by introducing new silicas for architectural coatings and ultraviolet- -curing systems, according to André Villani, regional sales manager for the SouthernConeandLatinAmerica.“ThenewSyloidA-Seriesrangeofmatting agents includes the Syloid A 4116 and Syloid A 4215, which are designed to provide the best gloss and reflection control in architectural coatings, while contributing to such coating film properties as abrasion and scrub resistance. Syloid 4009, for its part, is a silica product designed for use in coatings for indoor environments where both soft touch and high stain resistance are desired.” Villani says that for UV-curing paints and varnishes, formulators can now rely on two new silica gel products, Syloid 740 and Syloid RAD3007.“Thesearehigh-performancemattingagents.Botharerecommendedforformulationsthatseektoprovidefinisheswith high clarity and gloss below 10 units. The two of them also deliver excellent viscosity control during the process. Touching on the themeofcompetitivenessandsustainabilityinthepaintandcoatingsindustry, wehaveintensifiedourmarketingactionstopromote Sylowhite SM 405, a precipitated amorphous sodium aluminum silicate used as a titanium dioxide extender, delivering enhanced brightness and color stability, and contributing to reducing the specific gravity of the paint and the total cost of the paint job.” HUNTSMAN ADVANCED MATERIALS For Abrafati 2017, Huntsman Advanced Materials is promoting Ara Cool, a new range of curing agents for the industry, for use in low-temperature-curing coatings, according to marketing analyst Marcos Jaime. “Designed to improve curing speeds at temperatures ranging from 0°C to 10°C, Ara Cool allows formulators to meet the demand for faster processing in either cold or unstable weather that exists in various industry segments. One other product in the spotlight at our booth is the Aradur 3064 performance curing agent, featuring excellent chemical strength and outstanding drying properties. It’s used as a protective coating against acids, sea water, and organic solvents.” Huntsman Corporation is a global manufacturer and marketer of differentiated chemicals with 2016 revenues of approxi- mately US$10 billion. “Our chemical products are sold worldwide to manufacturers serving a broad and diverse range of consumer and industrial end markets. We operate more than 100 manufacturing, R&D and operations facilities in appro- ximately 30 countries and employ approximately 15,000 associates within our five distinct business divisions, including Pigments and Additives, a division that is going to spin off and be renamed Venator Materials Corporation.” IMCD IMCD has intensified its actions to extend its business to other niche markets where specialties are in demand, without leaving aside its excellence in logistics as a supplier of commodities, according Ricardo Franze, head of the Coatings, Lu- bricants, Plastics & Rubber business. “Our investment in application laboratories and training programs has enabled us to appropriately position traditional brands that carry high technical value. As we work with firmly-established partners like Evonik, Covestro and BASF, which manufacture highly engineered products for the coatings and construction industries, we always seek to add value to the end product our customers get, and it’s for this reason that we are proud to announce that inmid July we started distributing the building and construction products fromAshland. Beyond running a distribution logistics operation, we also work as marketeers to position our partners’ brands.” IMERYS Imerys is bringing a modern and distinct proposition for this edition of the Abrafati trade show, according to Alexandre Lucato Custodio, technical manager, South America. “We want to strengthen the image Imerys has in the marketplace as a company that provides mineral solutions that are tailored to each single customer. It is our goal to add value to our customers’ business with each of our products.” In this edition, Custodio tells us Imerys is introducing its latest technology in the marketplace. “It’s an engineered mineral solutionwe produce through an optimal combination of mineral ingredients, which provides increased abrasion resistance, and thus washability, in decorative paints, and optimized use of polymers in the formulation of economy, standard and premium quality matte coatings, while preserving the performance of the material well above minimum level required by the applicable regulations. The technology is being introduced at the International Coatings Congress.”
