Then came the MAST Group with the lecture titled “Appea- rance Measurement Before and After Weathering,” by sales executive DarioMendonça. “Wood Protection and Preservation: Opportunities and Prospects” was the theme for the closing lecture by Dulcidio Macedo,whosecredentialsincludeadegreeinchemistryfrom FaculdadeOswaldo Cruz, in São Paulo, a professional and self coaching degree from Instituto Brasileiro de Coaching, or “Brazilian Coaching Institute”, and an MBA in management in the chemical industry from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro/Abiquim.Inhislecture,Macedoemphasizedthatwood is the only truly renewable and sustainable rawmaterial that canserveavarietyof industrial purposes.Healsotalkeda little abouthowprotectingandpreservingwoodcancreateoppor- tunitiesandnewprospectsforthissectorofBrazil’seconomy. At the endof his lecture,Macedodrewout three copies of his book Diário de Bordo (“Logbook”) for those in attendance. As per usual, theMAST Group also drew out three extenders —BYK andMAST. ThenextbusinesstoemergewasRennerCoatings.FormerlyTintas Renner’s maritime and maintenance coatings division, it set up a salesoffice inRiode Janeiroas it stepped into the 1960’s. “In 1982, following the Renner Group’s acquisition of the paint company TinturaIndústriadeTintas,inCuritiba,Paraná,theresultingbusiness unit invested and specialized in producing maritime and industry maintenancecoatings. Sincethen, ithasbeenexpandingactivities inthesemarketsandconsolidatingitsoutstandingpositionasama- nufacturer of anticorrosive paints and coatings,” says Herrmann. As the group’s third business, Renner Sayerlack was established in São Paulo in 1968. Since 1980, this Renner Herrmann Group company has been strictly focused on coatings for the furniture industry. Today it is a world-leading company in this market. It operates plants in Brazil, Chile, Italy, and the United States. It also has two research and development centers, one in Cajamar, São Paulo, and one in Italy, aswell as distributors in over 80 countries. Born in 1970 was Flosul Madeiras, in the town of Capivari do Sul, Rio Grande do Sul. The business was the result of a reforestation programrolledoutbythefederalgovernmentinthelate1960’sand boostedbytaxincentives.Itrunsfarmsspreadovereightmunicipa- litieson thenorthshoreof RioGrandedoSul, coveringa total area of more than 15,000 acres.
