Foundedbackinthemid-to-late1970’sbytwobrothers,thelateLucas FerreiraPintoFilho(inmemoriam),andJoãoJoséPinto,Hidrotintas is located in the Maracanaú Industrial District, Ceará, where it has stoodthroughoutits40yearsofexistence.“Ourcompanywasborn by chance. Prior to creating Hidrotintas, the brothers and business partners owned a large metallurgy business, a factory where they manufactured industrial machinery and farming equipment, called Empresa Brasileira de Equipamentos Industriais e Agrícolas. In the ordinary courseof business, abuildorderwas placed for amachine designed tomake lime-basedpaints. However, over the process of building the machine, the customer backed out of the deal. Since they’d already researched into the raw material, the grinding pro- cess, etc., they decided to go ahead and produce powder coatings andtheSuperCal limeproduct. Andso itwas thatHidrotintas came intobeing, and soon saw its sales growso rapidly that the brothers closeddownthemetallurgybusinessandturnedtheirfocussolelyto thepaintcompany,”sayssalesandmarketingmanagerLucasNeto. A 100-percent Brazilian-held enterprise with four decades worth of experience producing decorative paints, initially as waterborne systems, Hidrotintas quickly took the lead in the regional market, according to Neto. “In 1993 Hidrotintas expanded its business by setting up a new factory designed to produce and sell acrylic and synthetic resin-based paints. In pursuit of our mission to develop high-quality and high-tech coatings, we’ve diversified our product rangeby adding latexpaints, synthetic enamels, textured coatings, and leveling compounds. Because we had a strong brand in the market for limed-basedpaints, itwas easy for us to introduce these products in themarketplace.” Over the years, as the founders’ children joined the company, it gradually professionalized by bringing in modern management techniques, according to Neto. “Today we are proud to have cus- tomers that have been doing business with us for more than 30 years, andsales representatives thathavebeenfightingonour side for over 14 years.” Neto notes that, to further solidify its position in the marketplace, Hidrotintashas earnedan ISO9001 certificationand theAbra- fati seal of quality, ranking among the leading domestic paint companies, andmakingitsbusinesstoprovidecustomersand agents alikewithquality products at the cuttingedgeof tech- nology. “In addition, we invest constantly in both production and laboratory equipment, having recently bought two new filling lines where we’re able to fill two different containers with two different paints. Another investment we’ve made went into automating our spackling paste can filling line, as that product sells in large amounts, andwe’ve built up a new research anddevelopment laboratory.” EVENTS - SITIVESP PRESENTS SUPPLIER OF THE YEAR AWARDS Sitivesp (short in Portuguese for Union of São Paulo State Paint and Coating Manufacturers) presented their Supplier of theYear Awards onNovember 22, during the entity’s tradi- tional year-end meeting at the at the FIESP (São Paulo State Industries Federation) building in São Paulo.
