PAINT & PINTURA
ched recently by Elementis Special-
ties. These new products based on
organically traded clay are particu-
larly well-suited for water-albased
systems, and can be used to replace
cellulose ethers. In addition to their
thixotropic behavior, Bentone DE
and Bentone DY-CE feature outstan-
ding stability, great color acceptan-
ce and sag resistance.
From its range of urethane thicke-
ners, the company will highlight the
Rheolate 200 series. Designed for
application in water-based systems,
they provide excellent application
properties, such as good leveling
and spatter resistance. The products
in this series are available in several
versions, providing formulators
with total flexibility in selecting the
additive that best fits the desired
rheological behavior. For low-VOC
formulations, Aromat recommend
the 600 series, consisting for pro-
ducts specifically designed to meet
new environmental requirements. In
addition, the company will display
its Micro Powders line of microni-
zed waxes, which it will exclusively
represent in Brazil.
Ashland
An affiliate of US-based Ashland
Specialty Chemical, Ashland Resinas
is a supplier of resins for paints and
coatings. The company has recently
acquired Ashland Aqualon Func-
tional Ingredients, most of whose
products are additives made from
renewable, natural raw materials
and used in paints, building and
construction, energy and specialty
chemicals.
Ashland Aqualon Functional
Ingredients will be exhibiting its
cellulose-based thickeners, such
as the well-known hydroxyethyl-
cellulose (HEC) products Natrasol
and Aqualon Ethylcellulose. It will
also highlight its additive lines for
paints and coatings, such as the
Dexter phosphated ester products.
The Strodex and Dextrol line of
neutralized phosphate esters can be
used as surfactants in emulsions,
polymerization, concentrates and
paints with APEO-free and low-VOC
products. The Advantage Aqualon
defoamer line is now complemented
by the acquisition of Logos Química
and the incorporation of Ashland’s
Drew Plus line. Logo’s traditional
line of defoamers, for its part, is
now complemented by the Logoster
phosphated ester surfactants and
the Logosperse polyacrylate disper-
sants. The Aquaflow line of asso-
ciated thickeners has gain the XLS
APEO-free, low-VOC thickeners. The
LEX110 pH neutralizing agent for
paints and coatings is a low-odor
stabilizing additive designed for
easy incorporation into the formu-
lation and a long-term pH stabiliza-
tion effect.
Bandeirante Brazmo
Bandeirante Brazmo will exhibit
its latest launches from some of
the most important suppliers of
raw materials to the paint indus-
try whose products it distributes,
namely:
BYK-Chemie – Recently launched
additives and waxes, stressing the
inorganic nano-particle technology,
such as UV absorbers for paints and
rheology additives for waterborne
paints;
Braskem – A comprehensive line of
low-toxicity, aliphatic and aromatic
solvents;
Cabot – The best options in carbon
blacks and fumed silicas for the
industry;
Dow Química – Incorporation of
one of the most comprehensive ran-
ges of raw materials for the indus-
try through Dow Coating Materials;
DuPont – Titanium dioxide;
Eastman – Specialty hydrocarbon
and terpenic resins for the market
in adhesives and sealants;
Huber – High-performance mineral
fillers for manufacturers of paints
and varnishes;
Kamin – High-performance calcina-
ted kaolins;
Lucite – A complete range of solid
methacrylic and acrylic resins for
both water-based and solvent-based
formulations;
Petrobras – Aliphatic, aromatic and
hydrogenated solvents;
Rhodia – Oxygenated solvents and
sustainable solutions for developing
the coatings and adhesives markets;
Sartomer – Speciality chemicals,
functional monomers and acrylate
epoxy resins for UV-curing techno-
logies;

pone and other raw materials for
the industry.
Prasad International – Launch of
organic and inorganic pigments
line.
BASF
At Abrafati 2009, BASF will place
emphasis on its paint raw ma-
terials, ranging from resins and
acrylic dispersions to effect pig-
ments, as well as the solutions
resulting from BASF SE’s acquisition
of Ciba Holding AG. The main pro-
ducts on display are those focused
on the “paint for the future”, such
as Neopentylglycol (126-30-7), 1,6-
Hexanediol (629-11-8), Glacier Frost
White, Sicopal Orange L 2430, Butyl
Acrylate (BA), Acronal BS 700, and
Acronal DS 6282X.
Neopentylglycol (126-30-7) and 1,6-
Hexanediol (629-11-8) are interme-
diate chemicals used in the formu-
lation of resins for polyester-based
liquid paints, as well as can and coil
coatings.
Glacier Frost White is a white effect
pigment based on synthetic mica for
use in automotive coatings (OEM
and refinish).
Sicopal Orange L 2430 is a tin-
titanium-zinc oxide-based inorganic
pigment used in coil coatings and
power coatings, high-performance
lead-free decorative paints, and
automotive coatings (OEM and
refinish).
Butyl Acrylate is a compound for
polymerizing acrylic resins and
emulsions. The product is designed
for paints, adhesives, textiles, lea-
ther, concrete additives and water-
proofing coatings.
Acronal BS 700 is an ethoxylated
alkylphenol-free styrene acrylic
