Brazilian Association of Paint Manu-
facturers) on November 21, Agnelo
Editora was honored by Prada. “Prada’s
goal in honoring companies during the
Abrafati dinner was to surprise those
who, like us, are celebrating special
anniversaries in the year 2011. We pay
honor to partners who contribute to
the industry every day, such as Sitivesp
and, of course, Agnelo Editora, highly
reputable publishing house that is fir-
mly established in the marketplace and
works for the development of the paint
industry by making the best informa-
tion known to its readers. Therefore,
it’s a great honor to watch Agnelo Edi-
tora grow with an incredible point of
difference over these 15 years of exis-
tence, making a point of evolving each
day not only in print, but also online
and in trade shows, fostering debate
and opportunities for the entire industry, including Prada,” says
Prada’s General Sales Manager Fernando Mello.
In addition to Agnelo Editora, Prada recognized such other ma-

Lukscolor (30 years) and Sitivesp (70 years).
Abrafati 2011 Stressed Innovation and Sustainability in
the Paint Value Chain
Held from November 21 to 23 at Expo Transamerica, in São
Paulo, Abrafati 2011 opened with a speech from Dilson Ferrei-
ra, Chief Executive Officer at the Brazilian Association of Paint
Manufacturers, known for short as Abrafati, who stressed the
importance of the trade show and the participation of select
group of professional individuals, which will certainly have an
impact on the definition of the paths for the paint industry
to follow and the actions to be taken to foster a sustainable
industry development.
The opening speech was followed by the first conference of
the show, conducted by Antonio Carlos de Oliveira, Chairman
of Abrafati’s Board of Directors, who provided an overview of
the opportunities for the paint industry and its potential, all
based on very consistent data, as well as the huge opportuni-
ties and challenges facing the industry in its pursuit of a new
development level by 2020. “The setting is very favorable. We
must all work together so that we can tackle opportunities and
overcome barriers. The paint industry has an enormous growth
potential in our region, but it needs to carry on with the trans-
formation process that it has started so that it can meet the
demand for more advanced, more sustainable products which
provide greater benefits,” Oliveira said.
For the second conference, John Klier, Dow Coating Materials’
Global Director of Research and Development, introduced
innovative materials and the coating solutions for the 21st
century, point out that it is time to rethink today’s paints with
an increasingly deeper focus on sustainability. “Our innovation
projects include revolutionary material platforms that address
the requirements of both decorative paints and industrial coa-
tings. The main points of innovation include high hiding power
technology for decorative paints, new performance additives
and extraordinary waterborne and thermoset chemistries for
industrial coatings,” said Klier.
Participating in the congress for the second time, DuPont Per-
formance Coatings’ Vice President of Technology Lewis Man-
ring conducted the third conference on the second day of the
show, during which he spoke about automotive coatings focu-
