On top of all this Brazil is focusing on products that harm the environment less and less. “Acrylic and styrene acrylic resins are essential for many applications in the paint industry, and are among the main ingredients responsible for properties such as water resistance, gloss, film formation, and more. I note that customers are following market trends and looking for low-cost but high performing products with distinguished properties. Therefore, innovations in research are fundamental, mainly because it is a commodity segment,” says Myrian Carvalho de Oliveira, Product Management at Wana Química. With specific properties, acrylic resins have also, over the ye- ars, become a natural substitute for other types of polymers, especially alkyd resins. “Today, acrylic resins and emulsions in solution are the fastest growing substitute products in the Brazilian market. However, for specific cases, cost is still a factor, but gradually they are gaining ground. Making a criti- cal market analysis, this type of resin is constantly growing in the Brazilian market and Allnex invests in this segment with extremely differentiated products serving specific niches for its customers,” informs Adriana Cristine Rodrigues de Almeida, Latin America Application Coordinator at Allnex.
