TITANIUM DIOXIDE - THE UNMATCHED POWER OF WHITE PIGMENTS Titaniumdioxide is recognizedworldwi- de as the most effective white pigment for variousmarkets, including paints and coatings, thanks to such key properties as hiding power, high tinting strength, durability, ease of dispersion and excep- tional performance. What is expected of the titaniumdioxide market for 2020 are positive expecta- tions, based on the expectation of gra- dual recovery of the economy and con- sequent reheating of industrial activity, including the paint sector. According to the perspective of the Brazilian Coatin- gs Manufacturers Association (known for short as Abrafati), the paint and coatings industry is expected to have a more significant expansion in 2020, which is expected to be between 2 and 3 percent, according to André Carvalho, senior manager at Evonik’s Coating Additives business. “It is expected that external and recent factors, such as tra- de disputes over markets, such as that between the United States and China, will create barriers and benefits in some cases for the supply of titanium dioxide to the different regions of the world. It is worth remembering that Brazil is not self-sufficient in the production of this pigment and supplies the domestic ma- rket with approximately 200,000 tons per year. Our position here is to have a strong trading partner for more than 50 years supplying Brazil with a high quality product from several factories spread throughout Europe and North America, which ensures stability for the demand that we expect to be increasing for 2020,” Carvalho says. For 2020, Tronox projects an increase in the domestic andglobal demand for tita- niumdioxide compared to last year. “As the only producer in South America, Tro- nox is well positioned. It is important to highlight themain trends in this market. Customers demand high value for TiO 2 in their paint formulations, designed to meet local performance requirements. Close collaboration between suppliers and customer formulation teams is important to meet the challenge of balancing costs and formulating quality performance paints. A local customer service team continues to be one of our points of difference for providing effective support for order fulfillment, documentation and logistics,” says Gilson Silva, sales manager.
