Roberta Chamusca,Metrology andQuality executive analyst at
INMETRO (short inPortuguese forNational InstituteofMetrol-
ogy),presentedthelecture“VoluntaryCertificationofCoatingsfor
BuildingandConstructionunder INMETROOrdinance529/2015”.
In keepingwith the theme came Qualycert director Gilberto
Selestirim,with a lecture titled “ConstructionPaint Certification
Requirementsunder INMETROOrdinance529/2015”.

Uponconclusionofthe lecturepresentations,fivedrawingswere

With65yearsofexistence, Eucatex remainsstrong in the indus-
tryandhas recently invested inapaintproductioncapacity
increaseandtheexpansionof itsfinishedproductsbusiness.
Alsoengagedinthefurnitureandconstructionindustries,the
EucatexGrouphascelebrated itsSapphire Jubilee. Initially,
the groupwouldproduce its ownpaints and coatings for
theirboardsandacoustic liningmaterialsuntiltheyear1980,
when they decided to set up Tintas Eucatex tobreak into
thedecorativepaintmarket.Thegroup’sexecutivedirector
FlavioMalufhasbeenatEucatex for29years, andsincehe
isamechanical engineer, heassistedwith theconstruction
ofthepaintfactorybetweentheyears1993and1995,when
theplantwasofficiallyopened.
MalufsaysthattheEucatexPaints&CoatingsBusinessUnit,
established in1994,todayboastsstate-of-the-artequipment
and laboratories that use cutting-edge technologies tode-
velopdecorativepaints.“Wehavetwoplants:EucatexPaints
&Coatings, located inSalto, upstateSãoPaulo,whichwas
oneofthemostmodernpaintproductionfacilityrightoutof
thegate; andEucatexNortheast, located inCabodeSanto
Agostinho,partoftheRecifemetropolitanarea,Pernambuco,
which istheEucatexGroup’snewestplantanddesignedto
supplycustomersthroughoutBrazil’sNortheastregion,plus
thenorthernstatesofRoraimaandAmazonas.”
Thecompany’sPaint&Coatingsbusinesshasmanyreasons
tocelebrate itsanniversary, somuchso thataspecial com-
memorative packaging design has been created for the
occasion. Ina limitededition,thecontainersfortheEucatex
OdorlessPremiumAcryliclinehavegainedacommemorative
seal.ThenewcanshavedistributedalloverBrazil.
Thatwasnottheonlyspecial featurethecompanyreleased
in 2016, andMalufmentions all of the changes that took
place in thecourseof thatyear. “In thepast 12months,we
expandedour finishedproducts capacity from650,000 to
800,000gallonspermonth.Sincewe increasedournumber
of colorofferings,wealsohad toexpandourwarehouse.”

high-andlow-pressurereactorshavebeenenhanced,thereby
increasingproductioncapacityby20percentandallowusto
usemoreofourown resinsandbuy less from thirdparties.
“We’reworking towardsmaking our paint and coatings
businessas relevantasour furniturebusiness, and Ibelieve
we’reontherightpath.TheEucatexpaintsarenowamong
thefivemostused inBrazil,andourpaintandcoatingsbusi-
nesshasseena5.3-percent increase innetrevenuesforthis
year,”saysMaluf.
The company is also investing in can filling equipment to
streamlinetheprocess.“Weareexpandingourmixofready-
madecolors.Wheneveranygivencolorformulatedinatinting
systemappears tobehighlysoughtafter,wemake itavail-
able from the readymix, too. The investment isunderway
andshouldbecompletedbyAugust2017,”Malufconcludes.
