FORUM
The 24thPaint&PinturaCoatings TechnologyForum
in theMidwestRegion tookplaceonApril 7atCastro’s
ParkHotel, inGoiânia,Goiás,withmassiveattendance
by industry professionals, totaling 126 registered at-
tendees, and a program filledwith presentations on
diverse, relevant industry-related themes, including
technical andmanagement lectures.
Organized by Agnelo Editora, the company respon-
sible for publishing the magazines Lojas de Tintas
and Paint & Pintura, these forums bring together
professionals from across the paint and coatings
supply chain in each region to promote seminars,
discussions, lectures and plenary sessions designed
to spread knowledge of the latest technologies and
innovations indecorative, automotive and industrial
coatings.
At the opening plenary session “Brazilian Coatings
Market: GrowthwithQuality and Value”, conducted
by Francisco Rácz, co-owner of consulting firm Con-
sultoriaRácz, Yamaga&ConsultoresAssociados, the
recent evolution of the coatings market in Brazil, in
its various segments, was presented and discussed,
including a brief, overall projection of volumes for
the next few years.
Next came IMCDBrazil,whobrought itssalesdirector
AlexandreTarantino foran institutional presentation,
which was entitled “IMCD in Brazil and the World”
and focusedon coatingsmanagement.
With her lecture “VAE Solutions for Paints and Coa-
tings”,WackerQuímicadoBrasil’s technicalmanager
Angelita Saul demonstrated to attendees how the
uniqueproperties andpositive cost-benefit ratios of
vinyl acetate ethylene (VAE) dispersions are leading
them togainmore andmore traction in the coatings
and adhesivemarket.
Following thecoffeebreakcameBrenntag, inpartner-
ship with DowQuímica, with the lecture “Solutions
for the Architectural Market Stressing Silicone-Based
Products”, presentedbyBrenntagQuímica’sdevelopment
assistant RicardoAlmeida deMatos.
To close the morning program, Covestro presented the
lecture “Polyurethanes and Polyaspartics: Efficiency and
Advantages of Low-VOCSystems”, deliveredbyAnaPaula
AlonsoCardoso,assistanttechnicianforpaintsandcoatings.
Moving on to the afternoon program, MCassab marked
its presencewith the lecture “CoalescingAgent: Ultrafilm
260LV”, presented inpartnershipwithOxiteno.Walter Fa-
zzio,MCassab’sCoatings,ResinsandConstructionBusiness
Unit manager, and Fábio Rosa, Oxiteno’s coatings expert
researcher, were the lecturers.
Soon afterwards, Imerys presented the lecture “Enginee-
redMineral Additives that EnhancePerformance, Improve
Productivity and Reduce Formulation Costs” through its
technical manager Alexandre Lucato and technical sales
manager FabrícioRodrigues.
Up next was Eastman Chemical’s product development
manager for Latin America Marcos Aurelio Basso, who
presented “Coalescing Agents to Meet Current VOC Re-
quirements inBrazil andOther LatinAmericanCountries”,
addressing thesignificant increase inqualityprogramsand
environmental regulations thathasbeen takingplace in the
whole LatinAmerica.
Elementis Specialties presented a reviewof key principles
of rheologyand theirpractical applicationasawaterborne
decorativecoatings formulation toolwith the lecture“Rhe-
ologyPrinciplesApplied toDecorativePaints”,deliveredby
Carlos Ramiro, application and technical servicemanager
for SouthAmerica at Elementis.
“quantiQSolutions for SpecialtyChemicals”was the lectu-
re given by quantiQ’s technical coordinator Sergio Rubio,
who presented a pigment dispersion solutions package,
including thehyperdispersants line fromDoxaandauxiliary
solvents for dispersion and amino-alcohol fromAngus.
Closing the forum, Fabriciano Pinheiro, technical director
at Intertoxandalsoabiomedical engineer from IB-UNESP/
BotucatuandMasterofToxicologyandToxicologicalAnaly-
ses fromFCF/USP,presentedthe lecture“Scope,Legislation
and Impact of GHS, FISPQ and Labeling”, emphasizing the
scope of the UN’s (United Nations) Globally Harmonized
Systemof Classification and Labelingof Chemicals (GHS).
