TintasCoral andTintasWanda), andSherwin-Williams,
ABRAFATI (short in Portuguese for Brazilian Associa-
tionofPaintManufacturers)hasmade it itsbusiness to
provide thatgroupwith the representation itdeserves.
“Thatgroup initiallyconsistedof largebusinesses that
were in need of broad representation nationwide so
thatmajorobjectives couldbeachieved. Lateron, the
firstdomesticbusiness tobecomea foundingmember
wasRenner Sayerlack (succeeding the founder Tintas
Renner).Accordingly, sixcompaniesarenowconside-
red founding members,” says ABRAFATI’s executive
president Dilson Ferreira.
Ferreira says that fostering sustainablegrowth in the
industry remains oneof the entity’s goals to this day.
“We carry out actions that allow the coatings indus-
try togrowwithquality and in such away as tomeet
customer requirements,while reflecting the industry’s
concern for theenvironmentandoccupational health,
and upholding ethical principles, all of which was al-
ready indemand 30 years ago. Back then, we already
wanted to fight tax evasion aswell, as it was a really
serious problem in the industry.”
In the last 30 years, the paint and coatings industry
has grownby theprinciples of sustainability inBrazil.
“Sustainability is viewed from three standpoints: en-
vironmental, social, andespeciallyeconomic; and you
can see that the coatings industryhas shown concern
for these themes. Today the industry isorganizedand
has ethical principles, while consumers know exactly
what theywill getwhen theybuypaints, aspaints are
now appropriatelymarked,” Ferreirapoints out.
Abrafati’s executive president also remarks that the
association has created two codes of ethics in the
courseof these years. “That reflects thedemands co-
ming fromour society regarding the ethical behavior
of businesses, includingmanufacturers, suppliers, ap-
plicators, thepaint retail system (buildingmaterial or
specializedstores,etc.)andendconsumers.Everybody
works in compliancewith strict ethical requirements,
which is somethingof great value.”
