INDUSTRIAL COATINGS –HOME APPLIANCES - WEG TINTAS
INTRODUCESPOLITHERMLINE
Home appliances, such as refrigerators, stoves, microwaveovens,
freezers,etc., representamajormarketformanufacturersofpaints
and coatings inboth liquidandpowder form. “Manyof thosema-
nufacturers havemigrated topowder coatings now, by virtueof
theproductivity improvement that results from the shorter drying
timesachievedwithpowdercoatings,”explainsWEGTintas’headof
marketingSandroOliveira.
Nevertheless, there arematerials andparts of complexgeometry
thatare incompatiblewithpowdercoatingsand thus require liquid
productsfortheirfinish,accordingtoOliveira.“They’dbeplasticparts,
likeknobsandfins,metalpartswithcomplexgeometriesthatcannot
becoveredbyapowercoating,andspecialfinishesavailableonly in
liquidformulations,amongstothers.”
The powder coatingsmost used in home appliances are either
polyesterorhybrid(epoxy/polyester)formulations.“Forapplications
requiring resistance to theyellowingcausedbyhigh temperatures,
suchasstoves,orbyexposuretothesun’srays,suchaswashingand
dryingmachines, thePolitherm26polyesterpowercoatingsarean
idealfit.Withtheirsuperiorweatheringresistance,theyextendcolor
andglossdurabilityunderexposuretohightemperatureorthesun’s
rays,”Oliveiraremarks.
Whengreater chemical strengthand corrosion resistanceare re-
quired,as inrefrigerators,microwaveovens,freezers,etc.,Oliveira
recommendsthePolitherm20hybridpowdercoatings.“Developed
