Associados, covered the theme “BrazilianCoatingsMarket:
GrowthwithQualityandValue”,presentinganddiscussingthe
recentevolutionof thecoatingsmarket inBrazil, in itsvarious
segments,whileprovidingabrief,overallprojectionofvolumes
forthenextfewyears.
MCassabintroduceditsUltrafilm260LVlineofinnovativecoales-
cingagentsinlinewiththemarkettrendtowardsenvironment-
-friendlyproducts. Its lectureentitled“Coalescent –Ultrafilm
260LV”wasdeliveredbyOxiteno’spaintsandcoatingsexpert
FabioRosa.
Itwas followedby the lecture“Solutions for theArchitectural
CoatingsMarketStressingSilicone-BasedProducts”,delivered
by RicardoMatos, technical coordinator at Brenntag, and
EvertonMarion, of DowCorning. Addressing the trends and
requirementsofthearchitecturalcoatingsmarket,that lecture
hadthemaingoalofcoveringproductsthatarekeytodevelo-
pinguniqueformulations,while introducingmarkettrendsfor
silicone-basedproductsthatfullymeettheneedsofendusers.
“NewRedBayferroxPigments:TheMostSaturatedIronOxide
RedsEverProduced”wasthethemeforthe lecturepresented
byDenilsonMarques,ofLanxess’Product&BusinessDevelop-
mentgroupforLatinAmerica.Using itsexpertiseon ironoxide
production, combinedwith research, innovation, high-tech
processesandsustainability,Lanxess introducedthatnew line
ofredpigments.
Thencame Intertank’ssales representativeMárioNuneswith
thepresentation“WhyuseStainlessSteelContainers?”Lackof
knowledgeof the legislationand itsconsequences, aswell as
shortsightednessconcerning thedangersof improperlyusing
plasticpackagingmaterials to transport and storehazardous
liquidchemicals, inhibits theuseof safeandcorrectsolutions,
accordingtoMárioNunes.
For Eastman’s lecture entitled “CoalescingAgents toMeet
CurrentVOCRequirements inBrazilandOtherLatinAmerican
Countries”,itsproductdevelopmentmanagerforLatinAmerica,
MarcosAurelioBasso,explained that thepast fewyearshave
seenasignificantincreaseinqualityprogramsandenvironmental
regulationsalloverLatinAmerica.Brazilalreadyhasamethodo-
logyset forthby theABNT (BrazilianAssociation forTechnical
Standards)andbackedbyABRAFATIfordeterminingVOC(vo-
latileorganiccompounds)levelsindecorativecoatings.Eastman
providedanoverviewofthattechnologyandrecommendedits
coalescingagentsthatareuptonewstandardsandregulations.
After lunch, Carlos Ramiro, applicationsmanager for Latin
America at Elementis Specialties, resumedbusiness covering
thethemeof“RheologyAppliedtoResolvingTypicalProblemswith
DecorativeandIndustrialCoatings”,presentingrheologyinadifferent
way,asatollofsolvingtypicalformulationproblemsindecorativeand
industrialcoatings.
IMCDBrazilpresented the lecture“IMCD inBrazil andWorldwide”,
throughitsbusinessexpertCatarinaGarbim,whoprovidedacorporate
presentationofhercompany,focusingoncoatingsmanagement.
“Containers forTransportingHazardousProducts”was the theme
coveredbyRentank technical supervisor JohnnyCamargoFerreira,
whotalkedaboutwhataresomeoftheproductsthatrequirespecific
containersfortransportationandwhatpackagingsafetyassurances
are currentlyprovided, aswell as legal sanctions for breaches and
carrierobligations.
Next came Additiva technical manager Larissa Guaitanelli, who
delivered the lecture“BASFResinsandDispersions:High-Efficiency
Solutions forDecorativeand IndustrialCoatings”.Addtiva/BASFhas
acomprehensiveanddiverseportfolioofresinsanddispersionsforin-
dustrialanddecorativecoatings,bothwaterborneandsolvent-borne.
Focusingontheuniqueefficiencyandperformanceoftheirproducts,
she introducedthetechnologiesused intheJoncryl,Basonat,Versa-
mine,VersamidandAcronalproduct lines.
To follow that act came PauloDonádio, innovationmanager at
AnjoTintas,whopresented an“AnjoTintas Case” concerning the
importanceoftheDecorativePaintQualificationprocesscarriedout
byABRAFATI’s Industry-SpecificQualityProgram(PSQ, the initials in
Portuguese).
ProfessorGustavoParanhos,EnvironmentmanageratIntertox,pre-
sentedtheclosing lectureonthetheme“NewRequirementswithin
theCTF/Ibama:RETPDatainPaintManufacturers’RAPPStatements”.
Paranhos introducedRETP (Registration, Emission andTransfer of
Pollutants)conceptsrequiredtobereflectedontheRAPP(Potentially
PollutingActivitiesReport)statementrelatedtotheIbama’sCTF(Fe-
deralTechnicalListing)applicabletothepaintandcoatings industry,
emphasizingtheRETP intheRAPP,pollutantemissionandtransfers,
RETPpollutants, pollutantemissionsources inpaintmanufacturing
processes,quantificationsonanannualbasis,benefits,andreporting.
Atthecloseoftheforum, theMASTGroupdrewfromtheaudience
thewinnersoftwoFordcups(viscosimeters)andoneextender.

Rentankreceivedaround50guestswhocametoattendthe launch
